[personal profile] honigfrosch is hosting a fall love meme. I'd be tickled to receive some, and look forward to leaving notes for any of you who post.

Movies (16/15): Do Revenge was fucking delightfully camp and I liked it a lot. There are some third act issues, but I'm so willing to look past them for the most part! [personal profile] havocthecat noted the biggest issue (it is slightly spoilery) here. I'm bummed that such an instantly-iconic film has that particular thing attached.

[personal profile] minoanmiss shared a question meme that I'm reposting here! Ask your desired question, should you please!

I'm delayed in properly crediting the lovely gifts I received for sapphic stocking stuffers and [community profile] fandomtrees.

In my fandomtree I received some wonderful, kid-friendly recipes, LOADS of book recs, and some new icons that will be going into rotation shortly!

In my sapphic stocking, I received an Alana/Margot podfic and the first/only Karen Filipelli/Britta Perry fic - I need more, I need more!

Let me tell you - I intended to write things for these. I browsed and I browsed and I opened tabs and stared at prompts and nothing happened, and continued to happen, and I suppose I shall have to be content with my contribution to these universes being null.

2) What’s your total AO3 word count?

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1. I never saw you coming (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Rosa/Amy, platonic romantic sleepover)

3. touch my neck and I'll touch yours (Brooklyn Nine-Nine/Parks & Rec, Rosa/Ann, meet-cute cop stuff)

5. After-Hours Fraternization (Brooklyn NIne-Nine, Rosa/Amy, getting drunk after a stakeout)

GOALS FOR FANWORK IN 2021

  • Read Fiction One Night a Week

  • Write 3-5 Stories of 1k or more, if drabbles, write 4-10

FANWORK IN 2020

Fic written in 2020: 2

Podfic recorded in 2020: 0

Mixes compiled in 2020: 0, though I sincerely hope to get back to making mixes!

That makes:

-- 2 fandoms represented

-- 1,711 completed words of fiction

-- 1 new-to-me fandoms

-- 1 ficathons/exchanges, and 1 special event

-- 1 femslash, 1 gen, 0 het, 0 slash, 0 incest, and 0 poly

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? I'd hoped to have one more complete piece under my belt by this time, but I'm far from disappointed with my output this year! I worked really hard!

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? It would have been hard to predict any writing in January. But I'm pleased with my moody genfic, and that isn't exactly my brand.

What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? Both of them made me really, really happy. Not necessarily the stories themselves, but the process of writing and editing and planning.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? I'm really proud of the risks of putting myself out there! I had a lot of starts and stops and restarts, and I'm learning to give myself the space for them, and really practice self love and encouragement in my fannish writing. My professional writing as well, actually! (I write blogs for both companies I work for.)

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? I do! I've included that up top.

FANDOM RECAP

Your main fandom of the year? Zip, nada. Probably spent the most time on the Hannibal re-watch, but it never quite hit fandom status for me. The only thing that's gotten close is Professor Marston, but that is just the past month.

Your favorite film you watched this year? I only watched 13 movies this year. Out of those, the four- and five-star rated were: Parasite, Birds of Prey, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Hannah Gadsby: Douglas, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women (re-watch), and The Muppet Christmas Carol (re-watch). I'd say my favorite was Birds of Prey and Portrait of a Lady on Fire, for different but overlapping reasons!

Your favorite book read this year? I didn't read any book. I read one novella-length original fic, and it deserves to be read. Beginning Where You Are by T. F. Grognon

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year? Folklore by Taylor Swift was a big one, and it is a late discovery, but Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers is giving it a run.

Your favorite tv show of the year? Rewatched Strange Empire and most of Hannibal, and mostly noticed the flaws in them. The Good Place ended in January. We haven't kept tabs on anything else well.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year? Birds of Prey, I suppose, though I haven't engaged with any fic.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year? The fact that I didn't care about much was disappointing.

Your biggest squee moment of the year? Getting to see Parasite and Portrait of a Lady on Fire on big screens. I'm really and truly grateful.

The most missed of your old fandoms? I primarily miss being part of an active fandom that has regular new content and writing, and sharing that fandom with friends. I got to touch this a little bit with a mini exchange with gloss.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? Schitt's Creek, probably. I'm not sure I'll feel fannish about it, but I'm open to giving it more of a go. We've only watched a few episodes together so far.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year? I'm looking forward to deliberately engaging more with fannish things and making concerted efforts to expose myself to more media.

I want to talk about writing/creating with you! If you'd like to talk with me, leave a link to a bunch of your fic/vids/art/other creative things, and I'll choose one that makes me curious and ask you to tell me about it, with some specific questions. You can do this in a post, or a reply, or however you would like.

If you want to talk with others, you can repost this.

Disclaimer: By posting now, I am giving myself permission to accomplish NOTHING until the new year. My mom was in the hospital almost all of last week, and now she's home and needing a lot of assistance, so I'm beyond exhausted.

2014 Resolution/Goals: 30 Books, 60 Movies/TV Seasons
Status: Miserably failed on books, kicked ass on movies/tv.

I am online yet again, and mostly settled. Pictures to come for those interested.

A few looming fandom deadlines... but meanwhile:

I currently have 169 works archived at the AO3. Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) to 169 (the first thing I posted there), and I'll tell you three things I currently like about it. Like gloss, my numbering doesn't always reflect chronologicality, as I shift  archives on whims. If you'd rather, I have 638 entries on my wordpress -- this includes lots of overlap, and more individual entries for stories that may be on AO3 as chaptered fic. Give a number and specify which archive you'd like me to poke. If under 169, I'll assume you mean AO3 unless specified.

Because I'm bored at work and feeling crappy, because my hands haven't quite adapted to knitting, because I have to take regular breaks from reading A Game of Thrones, and mostly because I can:

24 facts about [personal profile] aphrodite_mine

  1. The first movie I saw in theaters was Milo and Otis. The second was Harriet the Spy.
  2. I hit my brother over the head with a rocker (from a rocking chair) when he was a newborn.
  3. My first fandom was either Power Rangers or the Little Owl books.
  4. I used to have a V-shaped birthmark on my forehead, but it has faded with time.
  5. My first pet was a salamander of indeterminate gender. Sam lasted a week.
  6. For a few years I wrote and directed holiday performances for my siblings to put on.
  7. I wear a size 10 (US) shoe. It makes finding discount styles irritating.
  8. But then again, I've worn the same black flats almost every day for over two years.
  9. I used to play the cello (badly) and can play the piano (very badly).
  10. I still refuse to re-watch Jumanji because the night I saw it in theaters my neighbor played his bongo drums out in the driveway, and it scared me that badly.
  11. I read my mom's copy of The Color Purple when I was in grade school because I thought it was a romance novel. I don't remember reading past the part with Shug. (In fact, when I re-read it for a class a few years ago, that was the only part I remembered.)
  12. My mom told me once that masturbation is "something boys do."
  13. She also told me that I shouldn't be friends with a girl at church because she had depression and she would make me sad.
  14. I didn't drive until I was 21.
  15. My three siblings and I have six suicide attempts, one rape, seven mental diagnoses, and zero broken bones between us.
  16. I've moved at least once a year for the past seven years.
  17. I had my first kiss at 21. (Unrelated to driving.)
  18. I've never been out of the US, but I've been to both coasts, Wisconsin and Texas.
  19. My first online presence was an Animorphs website (I don't remember the host) followed by a collection of my fanfic and poetry on tripod, some of which is still live, and a ujournal.
  20. I took ballet, tap, and jazz from age 5 to 13. A few years later, I told my mom that my sister looked really awkward on stage. She said, "You should have seen what you looked like!"
  21. In third grade, I played a boy in a church play. That year I also played a Country Mouse and Maria in The Sound of Music (without the nuns or... the music. The summer school didn't want to offend any religions or pay for the rights to the songs.)
  22. I was in both of my parent's second weddings. (I am super iffy about that apostrophe.)
  23. I've never been pulled over, but I've been in two accidents.
  24. In elementary school, I sang at a boy's memorial service. I didn't know him, but other than his best friend I was the only one upset when he died.

I wrote for the first time in over a week today.

this part was for her (and this part was for her), Bomb Girls, Betty/Kate. For [personal profile] majesdane  on the occasion of her birthday.

Today has been strange. For the first time ever someone:
  • came into the office to place their service call
  • someone emailed me requesting that I read their story
  • I dared to listen to music at work (and good golly, the affect on my mood for the better!)
And here is a meme from [personal profile] musesfool  via [personal profile] gloss :
I was thinking you should tell me about stories you think I should write. I mean, if you could sit me down for a day or whatever and say, "victoria gloss marcia, I want you to write this story for me," what would that story be?

I'm not actually promising to *write* any of these, mind you, but it's fun anyway. And who knows if I'll be inspired!
