aphrodite_mine: two women wearing army hats steal a kiss (random - vintage love)
What a fun time! I still need to dive into the [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles round one collection, but for now I'm overdue in bragging on the wonderful gifts I received, and sharing what I wrote.

Moonlight (Fingersmith, Sue/Maud, angsty sharing a bed pre-betrayal) by Augurey. Gorgeous, poemy-prose. Most Fingersmith fic (all, like, 20 of it) is post-canon, so it was a really cool surprise to see mid-plot musings.
(so kiss me)shy sweet eagerly my most dear (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, Elizabeth/Olive, apocalyptic fisting!) by gloss. The ambiguity here is delightful, and the sex is just stunning.

I managed to write my assignment and one treat this round, both for [personal profile] gloss! I was so tickled to match with her knowing that I wanted to write something for her anyway!

The Visitor (PM and the WW, Elizabeth/Olive, supernatural hints)
Cream, Sugar (PM and the WW, Elizabeth/Olive, they go to a diner after seeing Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and are visibly queer but of course no one sees them). Fun anecdote, an earlier draft of dove more fully into "The Homosexual in America" and had Elizabeth fingering Olive at the diner, and as fun as that was, I couldn't quite make it work. Maybe some other time.

Dear [community profile] femslashex  author,

Thank you for being here and for writing for me! Obviously, the rules of the specific fest or exchange apply, but I'm generally a multi shipper, and love romantic fic. Whether you want to use this exchange as your opportunity to try something new with style, pairing, dialogue, taboo elements, or employ all of your favorite tried-and-trues, I'm so excited to read what you create!

[community profile] femslashafterdark is live! I think the one I wrote is probably obvious, especially if you eliminate the two I'm about to rec. But! If you'd like to message me with your guess, and get it right, I'll write you a drabble. Despite my blip of being sulky over going to pinch hits (I'm prepared to have my shit MUCH MORE TOGETHER for future exchanges, and I'm grateful to my initial author for their gracious message while I was being an ass) I had a LOT OF FUN with this exchange! I got to refresh on the fandom with my friend J and bounce ideas around like we used to do, god, 10 years ago when we were dating. I felt like I pushed myself and wrote something decently filthy (though Liz assures me it is actually super tame, g'bless). I also liked perusing the collection today and seeing more than one story I wanted to read. That doesn't happen a ton lately, just because I am a fandomly curmudgeon, and it was NICE.

I have two recs! And there's lots I didn't really dive into, so you should check out the collection if you like femslash and porn or other darker themes.

1. MY GIFT. Turn and Face the Strange (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, Olive/Elizabeth, apocalyptic AU). Y'all, y'all, y'all. Do you love women being EXPERTS IN THEIR FIELDS, TOOTH MONSTERS, SNOWPOCALYPSES, and HERO WORSHIP/ADMIRATION FROM AFAR? You don't need to know PM and the WW, but if you do, you won't be disappointed by the EXPERT CHARACTERIZATION AND CHEMISTRY. I wanna be all like, THIS FIC WAS WRITTEN FOR ME, except it really, actually was.

2. stain white thighs (press closer and colder) (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Dani/Jamie, sex as a metaphor for gore and gore as a metaphor for sex). I haven't dug much into this fandom because I'm afraid the fic won't all be this JUICY and SWEET and HORRIBLE and WONDERFUL.

Dear [community profile] femslashafterdark creator,

Thank you for being here and for creating for me! I'm generally a multi shipper, and love romantic fic but also solo, character-driven stuff, explorations, and even a little adventure fic. I am so deeply Not Picky, and I haven't been able to participate in much since having my daughter four years ago, so I'm basically just happy to be here and to participate.

I think what will make me the happiest is knowing that you've enjoyed your time writing for me, regardless of the specifics of fandom or pairing or content. So, please take the following as helpful-only-as-far-as-it-is-helpful-to-you and take the leeway and freedom you need! That said, if what you need is more specific prompts, I hope to offer those as well. Also, my pronouns are they/them/she/her if you'd like to discuss me.

General Likes:
  • Domesticity: married life, chaos of raising kids, work/life balance, the real work of staying together and working on trauma, mutual long-term healing, partnerships
  • Shared Space Tropes: fake relationship turns real, snowed in, forced to share a hotel room/bed, hetero double date fails, source of irritation becomes source of desire,
  • Darker Themes: body horror, wound play (inflicted or re-opened), exploration of pain (inflicted or tested), recovery from past trauma
  • AUs: character meets x instead of y, y never existed, character lives/escapes, characters die but meet on another plane of existence, 10 years after canon, pre-canon (with no strong feelings of if this would end up breaking canon itself), apocalypses
  • Honesty: frank, truthful depictions of physical and mental disabilities, not seeing situations or memories with rose-colored glasses (if character x was maligned or hurt by character y, that shouldn't be ignored, unless working in an AU)
  • Femslash and Poly are always opt-in :)
General Dislikes/DNWs:
Note: For this exchange, I am a bit more wiggly with DNWs, especially if they fit the bill for hurt/comfort, past trauma, or canonical events.
  • Rape or detailed reference to rape
  • Explicit sex including underaged characters
  • Dwelling on dead children
  • Explicit violence to children, especially sexualized violence

  • Use of fanon f/f to bash canonical partners (or fanon characterization to bash other characters)
  • Fetishized mental illness, including over-the-top depictions, or villains
  • Scat/vomit

rec post!

aphrodite_mine: (professor marston - olive glowing)
I've found myself somewhat back in fannish territory, circling stories I want to tell, in Professor Marston and the Wonder Women. As such, I finally spent an evening digging through the meager AO3 selection. I found that a lot of authors seem to want to erase Bill from the narrative completely and re-write Elizabeth and Olive as lesbians. If there's a place for that it certainly is fandom, but that's not what I'm interested in. Also hitting my no list: long paragraphs that tick the boxes of descriptions, and long speeches without action. As such, reading helped me clarify the types of stories that I want to tell with them, and I have two recs!

my hands are shaking (from holding back from you) by sixtywattgloom has a distinct focus on Olive and Elizabeth without totally writing Bill off. The plot absolutely tickled me--I caught myself grinning at the screen a few times, even! Notes for rope play, BDSM with role switching, and somewhat public sex.

in vino veritas by ProfessorSpork is short but so sweet and wonderfully in character. Notes for alcohol.
