- [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles is revealed! I wrote I wanted everything so much it grows (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Sharon Tate). This was a blind offer - I hadn't yet seen the film, but had read [personal profile] gloss's drabble and discussed it a little, so I knew I wouldn't hate it. The request by stillettodandelion really spoke to me - seeing her as something beyond myth - and I'm so delighted that they liked what I wrote.

- Reading has completely been sidelined by the flurry of everything.

- Schrodinger's Promotion is confirmed to be alive. Launch day for new approach went well, and I had my first Leadership Team meeting and didn't pass away.

- Really, really loving Mitski's Laurel Hell. It's my favorite album since Punisher.

- Please ask me Femslash February questions, and I shall come back after I've finished this fic-on-a-deadline and answer them! (I've copied them under the cut.)

For [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles I got THREE Shirley Jackson fandoms!

Green Grow the Rushes, O (Hangsaman, Natalie/Tony) - dialogue as if pulled straight from the book, and truly delicious descriptions

I delight in what I fear (Shirley (2020), Shirley/Rose) - oh man I love a real life detail repurposed here, going delightfully meta on the concept of the film. Shirley is such a beast in this, powerful.

First Steps (We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Constance & Merricat) - timeline play done precisely and pointedly to accomplish a goal - again, gorgeous writing and details

I have a sneaking feeling at at least some of these are by familiar faces, but I'd have a hard time guessing precisely who, especially since I was a pinch hit. *narrows eyes in suspicion* Thank you for hanging out in this obsession with me. Go forth and enjoy if these are also YOUR obsession.

I think the official tally for local snow was 7ish inches. Combined with the ice layer that hit first, I worked from home for three days. Hooooo buddy I hate it. Hilarious that I love the snowed in trope, because MY DUDES. NO. I got out tonight to pick up pizza, and it looks like weekly errands will be doable tomorrow. But, I'm also, maybe, getting sick! I've got a really sore throat.

The kids are marathoning Canadian kidshow Dino Dana, starring Michela Luci (she also voices True & the Rainbow Kingdom, and a voice from Go Dog Go - y'all we watch a lot of tv) and the house is full of roaring and squacking. It is cute. The show is also cute. The sisters call one another Seester. Is this a Canadian thing? Anyway, we're learning a lot about dinosaurs.

Goal progress of note:
- Fic 2 is in this round of [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles, hopefully going live this weekend. If you don't already know what I wrote and want to figure it out, I'll write you a prize.
- New meal of bell pepper quesadillas with mango salsa was an unexpected JAM. I kind of love all the different kinds of crema and sauces these meal kits have me do. This one was hot sauce/sour cream and so simple but I would never ever on my own.
- Mitski's new release Laurel Hell was my first full album listen of the year. The singles gave a pretty good preview, and FWIW I think they are the best tracks. Bright Eyes is apparently re-releasing new versions of a bunch of old releases, including Fevers and Mirrors. Phoebe Bridgers is on a lot of the tracks, including "Halaigh...", which was released as a flashback-inducing single. The whole album is like... senior year of high school for me, so revisiting it now is going to be... something.
- No full seasons to report yet, but tonight we started Archive 81 (digitization as a plotpoint! Decently spoopy!) and Murderville (so stupid... soooo stupid, but fun)

Recent Reading/Watching

Finished [spoiler] for a pinch and despite some disconnect over how the story wrapped up, feeling pretty good about the assignment and ruminating on a couple of ideas.

Enjoying Abbott Elementary with Liz. We also watched River Butcher's new half hour tonight - it is delightful, and free on YouTube (possibly only in the US?)

Blew through What the Heck is EOS?, which is essentially a longform brochure for the new business operating system we're switching to. I definitely bristled at some things, but I think it is applying a lot of common "business best practice" into actionable, repeatable processes. All of the lists and check boxes make my OCD very, very happy. There's a loud undercurrent of CAPITALISM, but I suppose I'm buying in for now. I've got a few other books to read for my new leadership role - one of which suggests that this is a path to being an Executive. Someone is going to have to buy me better clothes.

seasonsofdrabbles is due tomorrow, and I'm not totally unprepared. I've been working on it. Like. Internally. I have a title now!

Dear author,

Thank you for being here and for writing for me! Obviously, the rules of the specific fest or exchange apply, but I'm generally a multi shipper, and love romantic fic but also solo, character-driven stuff, explorations, and even a little adventure fic. Whether you want to use this exchange as your opportunity to try something new with style, pairing, dialogue, taboo elements, or employ all of your favorite tried-and-trues, I'm so excited to read what you create!

General Likes:
  • Domesticity: married life, the chaos of raising kids, work/life balance, the real work of staying together, working on trauma together, mutual long-term healing, partnerships, cooking and caring
  • Shared Space Tropes: fake relationship turns real, snowed in, forced to share a hotel room/bed, double date fails (into same sex coupling, or poly), source of irritation becomes source of desire, arranged marriages, marriage of convenience,
  • AUs: character meets x instead of y, y never existed, character lives/escapes, characters die but meet on another plane of existence, 10 years after canon, pre-canon, how would characters meet if x had happened instead of y, any apocalypse or post-apocalypse other than COVID-19
  • Poetic Language: stream of consciousness, experiments with phrasing, alliteration as emphasis, attention to minor details, parentheticals, confusingly-reliable narrators, reality-bending
  • Honesty: frank, truthful depictions of physical and mental disabilities, not seeing situations or memories with rose-colored glasses (if character x was maligned or hurt by character y, that shouldn't be ignored unless working in an AU)
  • Bisexuality/Polyamory: preferred over cheating, though cheating isn't a DNW

"Adult" Likes:
  • Darker Themes: body horror, wound play (inflicted or re-opened), exploration of pain (inflicted or tested), recovery from trauma, architectural/ecological horror, consumption/cannibalism images (probably not literally)
  • Animal/Xeno: tentacles are great if/when they make sense, but please no a/b/o/knotting
  • Kinky Themes: blissful sub, trying something new, explicit consent, use of safewords, rope and restriction play, withholding permission/orgasm/any release, mild discomfort-to-sharp temporary pain, stretching of openings
  • Pornographic Images: fingers/hands in mouths, dressing and undressing, spanking, lap sitting, grinding
  • Taboo: sibling, step-sibling, and cousin incest are okay unless fandom-specific DNW

General Dislikes:
  • Dwelling on dead children
  • Use of fanon (or canon) pairings to bash another character, even a character I hate
  • Fetishized mental illness, including over-the-top descriptions thereof
  • Detailed description of scat or cum (whereas blood and spit are okay, including menstrual blood)
  • Tropes: character x knew character y was queer/kinky/in love before character y themself knew, most tumblr AUs (bakery, high school - note that pre-canon setting is okay, but please don't throw everyone into the same high school when they didn't attend together, soulmate), modern/out-of-time AUs seldom work for me
  • Out of character or period-appropriate dwelling on sexual identity or labels

DNWs: detailed rape/non-consensual sex, underage sex (under 16), explicit violence/torture, explicit violent or sexually violent child abuse, newly-permanent death of requested characters, A/B/O, knotting, soul bonds, mpreg, details about the real children of historical-fictionalized characters.

For this exchange I'm requesting: [NB. I'm coming back to actually sign up and to add fandom-specific details]

aphrodite_mine: two women wearing army hats steal a kiss (random - vintage love)
What a fun time! I still need to dive into the [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles round one collection, but for now I'm overdue in bragging on the wonderful gifts I received, and sharing what I wrote.

Moonlight (Fingersmith, Sue/Maud, angsty sharing a bed pre-betrayal) by Augurey. Gorgeous, poemy-prose. Most Fingersmith fic (all, like, 20 of it) is post-canon, so it was a really cool surprise to see mid-plot musings.
(so kiss me)shy sweet eagerly my most dear (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, Elizabeth/Olive, apocalyptic fisting!) by gloss. The ambiguity here is delightful, and the sex is just stunning.

I managed to write my assignment and one treat this round, both for [personal profile] gloss! I was so tickled to match with her knowing that I wanted to write something for her anyway!

The Visitor (PM and the WW, Elizabeth/Olive, supernatural hints)
Cream, Sugar (PM and the WW, Elizabeth/Olive, they go to a diner after seeing Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and are visibly queer but of course no one sees them). Fun anecdote, an earlier draft of dove more fully into "The Homosexual in America" and had Elizabeth fingering Olive at the diner, and as fun as that was, I couldn't quite make it work. Maybe some other time.

ETA. I also wrote a pinch hit for [community profile] chromaticcelebrationex:
Blank Generation (The Wilds, Linh & Martha, Jeanette lives and Martha knows something) for facethestrange
