-- 1 femslash, 1 gen, 0 het, 0 slash, 0 incest, and 0 poly
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? I'd hoped to have one more complete piece under my belt by this time, but I'm far from disappointed with my output this year! I worked really hard!
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? It would have been hard to predict any writing in January. But I'm pleased with my moody genfic, and that isn't exactly my brand.
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? Both of them made me really, really happy. Not necessarily the stories themselves, but the process of writing and editing and planning.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? I'm really proud of the risks of putting myself out there! I had a lot of starts and stops and restarts, and I'm learning to give myself the space for them, and really practice self love and encouragement in my fannish writing. My professional writing as well, actually! (I write blogs for both companies I work for.)
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? I do! I've included that up top.FANDOM RECAP
Your main fandom of the year? Zip, nada. Probably spent the most time on the Hannibal re-watch, but it never quite hit fandom status for me. The only thing that's gotten close is Professor Marston, but that is just the past month.
Your favorite film you watched this year? I only watched 13 movies this year. Out of those, the four- and five-star rated were: Parasite, Birds of Prey, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Hannah Gadsby: Douglas, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women (re-watch), and The Muppet Christmas Carol (re-watch). I'd say my favorite was Birds of Prey and Portrait of a Lady on Fire, for different but overlapping reasons!
Your favorite book read this year? I didn't read any book. I read one novella-length original fic, and it deserves to be read. Beginning Where You Are by T. F. Grognon
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year? Folklore by Taylor Swift was a big one, and it is a late discovery, but Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers is giving it a run.
Your favorite tv show of the year? Rewatched Strange Empire and most of Hannibal, and mostly noticed the flaws in them. The Good Place ended in January. We haven't kept tabs on anything else well.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year? Birds of Prey, I suppose, though I haven't engaged with any fic.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year? The fact that I didn't care about much was disappointing.
Your biggest squee moment of the year? Getting to see Parasite and Portrait of a Lady on Fire on big screens. I'm really and truly grateful.
The most missed of your old fandoms? I primarily miss being part of an active fandom that has regular new content and writing, and sharing that fandom with friends. I got to touch this a little bit with a mini exchange with gloss.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? Schitt's Creek, probably. I'm not sure I'll feel fannish about it, but I'm open to giving it more of a go. We've only watched a few episodes together so far.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year? I'm looking forward to deliberately engaging more with fannish things and making concerted efforts to expose myself to more media.
