Pick a paragraph (or any passage between... let's say 200 and 600 words) from anything I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

Ah. Yes. I'm surprised I haven't gotten more (any) comments of "Kindly, WTF?"

I feel like, in some ways, this story is really about an approach to the series itself. (Bear with me.) The version of Audrey in the story does not understand the things that are happening - death, disappearance, visions, etc - but she doesn't try to discover their meaning. Things are true because they are.

Audrey was my touchstone for the series, so most of my forays into Twin Peaks fiction involve her. I also work somewhat frequently with the arrested narrator, grammatical style that I used here (I can think of two examples off the top of my head, an X-Men story I'm not sure I have posted on this blog, and an original.)

As for the particular images in this story, I was mid-season 1 while writing this (early, even) and overwhelmed with the new world I found myself in. I know I had something specific in mind for Cooper's 'machine' but I have forgotten it now. Maybe his voice recorder?

I wanted to keep the characters boiled down to their essentials, still recognizable for who they are in the series. I remember writing it in a kind of haze, needing to put these images down, needing to work through some of what I was seeing.
