Let me tell you about a little show called "New Girl."

You guys. You guys. You guys.

Watch this show.

I started last night, on gloss 's recommendation, and holy crap sandwiches, does this show fill my pending Parks void. LIKE WHOA. I mean, there's definitely a formula in place that seems to work for me: perky, positive, quirky young female; of-undetermined-slightly-non-white, beautiful best friend; cast of dudes (including DoC) there to support perky, positive, quirky young female's adventures and shenanigans. Sound familiar? Maybe this is a bad thing, maybe I'm just setting myself up for failure... but I came in with low expectations (expectations that might not be so low post the HOLY BECHDEL PASSING "Jess and Julia") and came away laughing hysterically, and talking and singing to myself... and okay, a lot of that might be the energy drink I accidentally drank last night.

(Accidentally? you say. All of the good flavors of single-serve drink mix had ENERGY on them. I had no idea they meant it! DRAGON FRUIT!)

So, basically. Watch New Girl. I watched 10-12 and 1-5 last night, and I think that if I had actually watched from the beginning instead of starting with the IMPOSSIBLY GAY AND AMAZING LIZZY CAPLAN PLOTLINE I might have quit this gem. But it really hits a stride by episode 3, and while I could do without "Naked" it also has SO MANY CHARMING THINGS AND HILARIOUSNESS. Also an AMAZING cast of female guest stars including Natasha Lyonne (who, holy crap, has gotten SUPER hot) and Lake Bell.

And now I have to go tally up the final batch of rarewomen sign ups, fill in my monthly data entry books, and write fic.

I'm tempted to go back and re-watch what I've already watched and write a running list of TINY TINY MOMENTS that I love(d), but I have a feeling that's overkill. But that list definitely includes Natasha Lyonne and everything about her character. EVERYTHING.

I already watch it! Haven't seen any femslash yet, though. I didn't know anyone else but me watched this show!

(Also, Natasha Lyonne has always been impossibly hot. Or maybe it's just that she plays snarky characters, and I find sarcasm impossibly hot.)

While spamming twitter last night, I found out a few RL friends are watching, people who, like me, had previous panned the show (before watching). I wouldn't be surprised if, because of the negative reaction from critics, more people are avoiding or secretly watching.

Neeeeed femslash. ASAP.

I admit to starting to watch for purely shallow purposes, in that Zooey Deschanel is very, very attractive and I was hoping they'd let her sing. Which they do! And the first ep or two were terrible. But it got better! And now it's a charming little show and not just a live action harem comedy either. The credits usually leave me breathless with laughter!

Though Mr. Havoc is sometimes perturbed, because Schmidt is that hyper-privileged, super picky Jewish dude that is very, very stereotypical, but whom I have never actually seen exist in reality. But the rest of the show is wonderful, and even Schmidt has his moments.

I generally enjoy Zooey (and have for a long time) so it's nice to see her... um. Acting while not high? (Tried to think of a way to put that delicately, failed.) Or at least she's gotten better at hiding it. Hah.

Oddly enough, I've actually known a few Schmidts, but they were gay and not Jewish. I'm not sure what that means for Schmidt himself. (Right now I'm in that bubble where I'm not thinking too much about whatever failures NG might commit.)

Clearly I need to find this someplace in the universe. So I can screencap! And icon! (This is a show that I would purchase on dvd in a HEARTBEAT.)

Okay, I re-watched the end scenes last night and there is exactly one frame with Jess and Julia in the same image. And it's of the four girls on the couch -- not optimum for icon making AT ALL. BOOO. The rest of the scene is shots of Jess & Cece and then Julia, with Jess's hand in the frame.

WHY DO YOU REJECT MY ICON NEEDS, SHOW? (That said, I'll probably try to do some cut-frame type thing this weekend if I'm feeling photoshoppy.)
