Having recently listened to Criminal episode 212 "The Fasting Cure" I would love recommendations for stories of turn of the century female quacks, cult leaders, and alternative medicine purveyors. I think this is absolutely a trend, and an extremely curious response to the medical establishment of the time and the overlapping women's movements. 

I find it easiest to consume podcasts at the moment, but I'm not opposed to recs in other formats.

I don't have actual recs, but do check out Maintenance Phase podcast for more about quacks and pseudo-science. The one about Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar has a female quack who's something else. (But not turn of the century. Hmmm.)

Maintenance Phase is SO good. I also finally subscribed to If Books Could Kill, which doesn't match this particular thing but aahhhhhh so good (thank you for posting about it).
