I didn't know Rebecca Hall is mixed race! (I've adored her for years). My tuppence: I do think if being mixed race has affected her life that makes sense that she could bring that to directing Passing, which is about two women who'd be considered mixed race nowadays (and a little bit about some of the leadup to that category even being developed).
