Dearest, darlingest YULEGOAT;
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I am SO excited for Yuletide this year. Well, to be fair, I'm excited for Yuletide every year, but I just wanted to say that I'm excited for this year, because dear Yulegoat, this year YOU are writing for me, whoever you are. The important thing is that you signed up for one of four INCREDIBLE, AWESOME fandoms and are willing to write a story for them, whether or not you pay a whit of attention to my ~very optional~ details.
I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I AM EXCITED.
Here, in random order, is what I asked for, and under the cut are additional details that I may or may not have included in the signup. I was so excited that I didn't copy/paste as usual!
1. Antichrist, She/He
2. Ian McEwan - The Cement Garden, Julie/Jack/Tom
3. Juno, Juno/Vanessa/Leah
4. The Middleman (tv), The Middleman/Wendy Watson/Lacey Thornton
+ Antichrist, Lars von Trier's newest film. Perhaps you've been in one of the big cities "lucky" enough to host a regular screening of the film, maybe you just got your hands on adownload copy. Either way, thanks for braving potentially misogynistic [I don't think so] genital mutilation to offer this fandom.
## What I'd like here is a further exploration of the themes introduced by the film. Like I said, I don't think the film is ultimately abusive towards women, however much Charlotte Gainsbourg's character allows herself to be abused/sucked into the narrative. What does she experience during that time alone with Nick at Eden? How does She fall so hard, so fast? How (and why) does He act as an Antichrist force? How does His life change after the events of the film?
+ Ian McEwan - The Cement Garden. If you haven't read the short novel, it is a quick read, and the movie made in the early 90s (I believe) is also an adequate substitute if you can get your hands on it.
## Canon incest and gender fuckery, what more could I ask for? I'd like an exploration of Jack and Julie's relationship from Julie's perspective. I'm also curious about Tom's transformation, and his acts of mimicry. Their narrative as a fractured fairy tale, or in a way, a failed narrative is something I'm very fascinated by. Where does the story go after the police find Jack and Julie? Do the cracks in the concrete eventually split, do things fall apart?
+ Juno, the film by Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody. While the film is wildly popular, there really isn't a lot of fanfiction out there. I love Cody's writing and think she deserved her Oscar, am also a huge fan of Ellen Page. Comparing the original script to the film is interesting, because in the 'final draft' Juno is washed of its secondary love story, between her and Mark, something that might be explored further.
## What I would most like here is a story about women who are strong enough to know what they want to do something about it. Timeline doesn't matter, I'm not picky about pairings (though I would be giddy over femslash). The only thing I don't want is a happily ever after story where a couple raises the baby, or an AU where Juno keeps the kid--unless you can make it IC, than by all means, go for it!
+ The Middleman (tv). This is a new fandom for me, and I'm still falling for the dynamic between Wendy, Lacey and MM. The format of the show tickles me; how the narration is often repetitive, when things go over the top just a little too far but still don't make me roll my eyes.
## I would love something with these three characters together, exploring their different bonds. Sex is great, but not straight porn please. Again, strong women are a must. I'm still working my way through the back half of the series, so I don't have many specific ideas, just this vague picture of triangle lust and confusion, turning into something more.
Ultimately, Yulegoat, I'll be flabbergasted and dazzled no matter what you write me. If you have an idea of your own, don't let my silly words sway you. Have fun, enjoy yourself. If I can help you ~obtain any of these fandoms, please let me know via anon comment or through a friend. I want you to have the best Yuletide possible, and I hope my prompts don't give you too much grief.

I don't think it's the mutilation that pushes it into the territory of misogyny, but rather the sudden incorporation of witchcraft into the story. It's uncomfortable because it feels like the tables are getting turned on us so quickly in regards to the audience's sympathy for Her, and while it swings back and forth for the remainder of the film, the swift way it's introduced to give way to the (I'm going to use the word...) madness feels a bit too much like Von Trier, always a prankster, getting his digs. I always imagine him chuckling with a fedora on.
ps. Here's the reaction I wrote to Antichrist when I saw it a while back: http://denofgeek.com/movies/274024/edinburgh_film_festival_lars_von_triers_antichrist.html

I think you have a much more solid grasp of the film than I do -- having seen it twice in the past two months, I'm still jumbled up and chaotic, trying to make sense of what I believe.
I feel like the film (along with most of his work) is ultimately feminist, despite the strong evidence otherwise. Anyways, we're all talking about it, and that, I think, is what he wants, laughing at us, and pissing on gnomes.

Von Trier's mother was a feminist, and he's said that she's be rolling in her grave if she'd seen Antichrist (his words, not mine). There's that argument that he's a feminist because he allows these actresses incredible performances and that they're ultimately strong, but as the press materials for the film state (here's (http://www.artificial-eye.com/database/cinema/antichrist//pdf/pressbook.pdf) the link, the interview with Knud Romer is really interesting stuff) that Von Trier has "flirted" with pornography in his films, esp. The Idiots - and also his involvement in Puzzy Power/HotMale - that throws it into debate.
But of course, that depends what strain of feminism we're talking about. I mean, I think feminism is an amazing thing that I support but would I necessarily consider myself one? Maybe a hypocritical one, due to my use of pornography. Maybe I've opened a whole new tin of beans here...
