So, this list made me mad. I found it incredibly narrow in focus and really Ameri-centric (not that a list of my own making wouldn't suffer the same problems). I'm going to run a poll and hopefully come up with a top 10 or 30 shows of the 2000s. Comment with your nominations, including any shows mentioned in the poll. Any genres are acceptable, as long as they ran for at least a technical season during the 2000s (being canceled during said season still leaves them eligible). Number of nominations will not effect the first round of voting.
Nominations will run until November 21.
Making this public so it has the chance of being unbiased, therefore I ask you NOT to pimp it to any fandom communities. However, please do link it to friends with varying tastes.

Qualitatively, I think The West Wing should be very high up on this kind of list.
However, I think that when it comes down to voting on the internet, The West Wing won't stand a chance against some other shows that are, with all due respect, nowhere near as good as The West Wing, basically because it's ended, fandom isn't as big as Whedonverse and there rest of the voters is too young or not interested in politics.
Yes, I think The West Wing is sadly overlooked in many lists. *sulks*

West Wing - manages to be so detailed and cerebral and still completely addictively easy watching
Black Books - personal No. 1
Life On Mars - just love the concept and storylines. Almost nothing made me cringe, which is something that ruins a surprisingly large number of shows for me.
Skins - not so sure about this. I think S3 is made and executed brilliantly so it's not just my flailing that makes me love it, but I'm still to be convinced by S1 and 2
Sugar Rush - basically all the bits I love about Skins but better and more believable, IMO.
FireFly - sci-fi that forgets it's sci-fi and instead becomes some sort of modern twisted Western? Yes please ...
Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip - I found this much more engaging than 30 Rock, which was a nice comedic treat but nothing I'd think was any better than something like Scrubs. Sunset Strip was really great though, and getting to see Matthem Perry in a proper role and being awesome in it was a lovely bonus.
That list definately makes mewant to watch Breaking Bad and Veronica Mars now though. Gotta say that Flight Of The Conchords really wasn't that good to me, just mildly funny. The songs were by far and away the best part, and worked just as well out of context.

As If (UK) - forerunner of Skins in many ways (teen ensemble piece, with variable viewpoints). Sort of obscure and never released on DVD (Grrr).
The West Wing - everything I know about US politics I know from this show. Utterly, utterly wonderful.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - Aaron Sorkin can do no wrong, all I'm saying.
Skins - I'm so emotionally invested in this show it's not even funny.
Battle Star Galactica - best sci-fi ever mande? Y/Y
Farscape - more science-fantasy than sci-fi maybe, but still a glory to behold.
Life on Mars (UK) - John Sim = ♥ and Gene Hunt is just glorious.
Spaced (UK) - geek heaven. 14 episodes of comedy gold.
Buffy - my first true love. I have never, and probably will never, loved a show as hard as I love this.
Firefly - cut off before its time. A masterpiece.
Dr Who - needs no comment.
Sugar Rush - funny, poignant and totally wonderful.
(The X Files stopped being worth watching long before 2000, but the early seasons were pure brilliance).
There's probably more, but these are all that spring to mind right now :)
