Interesting... I have that thought sometimes. Mostly... I don't know. I find that the most banal thing will take off as long as two very pretty boys have the potential of being slashed. It doesn't bother me, but it's totally not the same for girl pairings. I know the arguments (straight girls want to read/write about boys, etc.), but I don't always buy them completely.

I agree with the secret so I'm not offended. I feel that you write whatever the fuck you wanna write and whatever you feel turns you on, so if you're into yaoi/guy-on-guy action so be it. I don't necessarily think they're in denial about their gender (depending on what, exactly, that person means by in denial) but I think there is a lot of female hatred in these likes and dislikes which people don't even notice because it's on such an unconscious level it's practically invisible to them. So they say things like, "Oh, there are no interesting female characters" or "I just like boys, thanks" and that's not actually all that's going on beneath the surface.

Just so you know, I started writing a really long response to this and it's already on page two of word. It's made me think a lot and I'm trying to sort all the rambling back out so it sounds clear, but I'll let you know when it's done. ;)

I have a lot to say, and I'll probably edit over and over again to make sure it makes sense, and that I don't say something I don't really mean. I've never had to put words to my opinion on this before (I didn't know I had an opinion in the first place), but I want to share it with you. I might wind up emailing you a paper later.
