TIL (well, YIL) Rebecca Hall is mixed race. Does that make her more of an acceptable choice to direct Passing? I don't know, I don't think that is my purview. (A recent episode of The Experiment podcast has an interview with her about it, and it felt at least to me that they asked many of the right questions. They also cover passing movies of old, and there's a lot of history I did not know!)

Drabbles are so much fun. I know they are so polarizing, but I have never gotten why. To me, they fun to write and to read.

Whatever the minimum word count is for a thing, that is the word count I shall contribute. Or there around. :D So if people don't want drabbles for a thing that allows them, well. TOUGH.

I didn't know Rebecca Hall is mixed race! (I've adored her for years). My tuppence: I do think if being mixed race has affected her life that makes sense that she could bring that to directing Passing, which is about two women who'd be considered mixed race nowadays (and a little bit about some of the leadup to that category even being developed). Thank you for the podcast link!

FWIW, it sounds that while her racial identity doesn't/didn't affect a lot of her daily life, but that of her mother did, quite significantly. I can certainly imagine being attracted to a project because it so closely reflects things you saw in a parent growing up.

I've loved her for ages, and the way she discusses this with a Black journalist was really lovely and made me feel so excited for how intelligent she is, and thoughtful.
