Between sickness and impending houseguest I barely scratched the surface of the archive before author reveals, so if you're in the same boat you should totally come slowly catch up read with me post-reveals instead. There is some awesome things in there. I wrote:

Going Easy (1355 words) by shopfront
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Wolf 359 (Radio)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Relationships: Isabel Lovelace/Renée Minkowski
Characters: Doug Eiffel, Alexander Hilbert, Hera (Wolf 359)
Additional Tags: Sparring, Flirting, Tension, Missing Scene
Summary: Minkowski and Lovelace aren't enemies, exactly. But they're not friends either, and it seems prudent that they find a way to work together better - even if it involves a little bloodshed.

I actually ended up diving into a new fandom post-matching this year, which is unusual for me, and I had a lot of fun catching up on Wolf 359. (Mostly but still not quite caught up on the very, very latest eps, so no spoilers please!) I highly recommend it if anyone has considered trying it. I am not a podcast person, or an audiobook person either. I tend to struggle to focus when listening instead of reading words. But this was engaging enough that I had way, way fewer problems than usual, so for what that's worth - 'tis excellent fun!

I am also off to see Cursed Child today, finally. Happy belated birthday to meeee. Both parts back to back on four hours sleep with flu while dragging along a jetlagged houseguest. So that should be interesting. But I'm so excited!

Create Your Own Visited States Map

We used to go on three week camping trips when I was a kid. We spend hours and hours driving to random places so we could see big statues of Babe the Ox and other weird roadside attractions. My dad loved that stuff. I look at the map and I can see oh, that's our trip out west. Those are the times we went down east and Dad refused to drive through la belle province. There's that Florida trip that was weird and awful.

So when I first watched the new Wonder Woman movie, I knew that someone had to make a vid to this song as Titanium and Wonder Woman go together forever for me thanks to [personal profile] giandujakiss's amazing vid to the TV show here. When the movie finally was available to vid, I tried to think of what I wanted to vid it to and decided to vid it to this song since this song and the movie meant a lot to me while I was going through hard times in June and I wanted to make a vid to the movie that would represent all the things I loved about the movie. This was one of the BEST experiences I've ever had as I had so much fun lovingly getting to clip every frame of Diana and then getting to vid her being awesome and only vidding the parts of the movie I loved was paradise for me. I originally was going to make the vid shorter but then I kept having to include more scenes and I was happy I added a section for young Diana. For the most part, the vid came together easily and I was happy that the vid came out the way I saw it in my head. Plus I got to premiere the vid at my birthday party with myself dressed up as Wonder Woman with my friends and it was an amazing experience :D

Oh, of course they're not "ethically sourced," because why would they be when profit is involved?

(You see skeletal art at local craft shows too.)

(I really wasn't creeped out by dead thing art before.)

(Not that I don't understand "killing lots of shit for profit," but also PASSENGER PIGEONS, enough said there.)

So I had heard about Pam/Tara becoming a thing on True Blood but I had stopped watching in s4 and never went back to finish the show so I never saw their storyline. But in my rewatch, I was mesmerized by the Pam/Tara storyline and how much chemistry they had together and I couldn't get enough of their scenes. I decided I had to make a treat for them and went looking for a song and after being frustrated for awhile, I finally found this one which captured some of the dom/sub aspects of their relationship which I enjoy so much. It was fun to vid as I love all their scenes and I only wish the show had done more storylines with them. I was glad to finally get a chance to vid Pam and if you're curious, you only need to watch S5 (Pam&Tara scenes) to enjoy the vid!

Title: Down The Rabbit Hole
Music: "Down The Rabbit Hole" by Adam Lambert
Fandom: True Blood S1-4
Focus: Lafayette/Jesus
Summary: Going down the rabbit hole
Content Notes: Physical triggers (e.g., epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills), blood

So one of the main reasons I offered True Blood was because I was really sad to hear that the actor who played Lafayette, Nelsan Ellis had died as Lafayette was my favorite character and the main reason I watched True Blood (also Pam). I had always wanted to make a vid for him but never got around to it and so I thought this exchange was the perfect time to do so. I wanted to make a Lafayette character study vid but I really struggled with finding a song that encapsulated all of his character so I kept looking as I rewatched the show but only watched the scenes with Lafayette, Pam or something gay in it (inc Godric/Eric) which were really the best part of the show. I fell in love with Lafayette/Jesus all over again so when I couldn't find a song, I remembered I used to want to vid Adam Lambert's Down The Rabbit Hole to the show and realized the s4 magic/medium plot would work perfectly for it. Once I decided on the song, I struggled a little with making the vid until I realized I just needed to cut the song down and then I could just use all the pretty parts of the plot and it made vidding it a lot more fun and matched my recipient's request even more. In the end, I was happy to have made it but I still hope someday somebody will make an epic Lafayette vid because he deserves it.

Has it really been over two months since I posted last? ugh. At some point I will babble about the television I've been watching, including The Defenders which I actually enjoyed SORRY to be weird as usual. But before that, I really need a reader for my [livejournal.com profile] dcu_bang story?

I do have one beta already on it but I think it came out a little wordy for her to handle on her own. Kara/Mon-El divergence AU, 36k. You don't have to be a hardcore grammar nerd unless that's your thing, here's the list of things that probably need checking:

-did I get excited by an idea and fail to finish the sentence I was working on
-did my phone app insert a word in the middle of a different word just to fuck with me
-is my portrayal of Krypton distractingly weird to someone more familiar with the wider DCU (for this you would only need to read the first 10k!)
-do the action scenes make any sense
-does the rest of it make any sense

If you can only read for one of these things it would be perfectly cool and a ten day or less turnaround would be ideal?

PS it mostly takes place on Daxam, so warnings for Daxam being a terrible place! Nothing graphic though.

And while you are doing that I will try not to flub this [community profile] fandomgrowthexchange deadline, ugh. They have open pinch hits if unlike me you are not already screwing up the whole writing to a schedule thing.

John Dunsworth, A Canadian actor, has passed away. He was hugely popular as Jim Lahey from Trailer Park Boys, but to me he was Dave Teague on Hven. Condolences to his family and friends.

Last night I deleted Supergirl from the pvr. I felt a little bad about it, but I havent watched in episode since middle of season two.

I turned the furnace on for the whole night last night, not just a jolt of heat to take the damp out, but heat all night if needed. I woke up sweating so I guess we aren't quite there yet. Hurray.

Why are surprise real estate signs never on the lawns of those you would love to no longer have as neighbours?

I'm on book four of The Dark Tower series. It has sat unread on my bookshelf since it came out. I decided after book three to wait for the rest of the books to be written and I'm just now getting around to them. I'm all hey "thinnies!".

I was giving the animals their monthly dose of revolution (or whichever one we are using this year) when Dutchess bolted. I was about halt-way throughh emptieing the pippette on her, so I had to chase her about shouting things like "Do you want to be a mangy flea-bag, do you?" (If all goes well, this should be the last month I have to do that for a while.)

[personal profile] gingerpig will be here for her visit in less than a week. It's beem too long since I saw her last. I'm excited!

I am enjoying the hell out of Discovery. Compain if you must. Look, I am currently on season two of The Next Generation, and have skipped many episodes cause NO. Just NO. TNG is not my Trek. Although Guinan has finally put in some appearances, so things are looking up.

The Good Place is makeing me laugh and being terribly clever. I though Ted Danson had had his day, but I was wrong. Watching him as Michael is a joy. He has no shame, and it so much fun to watch.

I usually ignore the salt measurements except when baking, and just salt to taste, but that's because I've been cooking since I've been old enough to drag a chair to the stove and push vegetables around on a skillet. This is potentially disastrous to people who don't know as much about cooking!

Sometimes your recipes call for a specific type of salt - and there could be an actual reason why. Not if it's trendy salt, usually, but if it's "sea salt," Diamond kosher salt, or Morton's kosher salt, there's a specific reason and you should actually pay attention. Who knew?

I mean, I've been cooking for multiple decades and I had no fucking clue before this morning, so if you didn't know, don't feel bad! Hell, Bon Appetit magazine didn't even know until 2013, and they're goddamn Bon Appetit gourmet magazine.

This is going to make a world of difference in my pickling, that's for sure. No wonder my pickled turnips always turn out too salty.

The Kosher Salt Question

Tagline: Prized for its purity and flaky texture, kosher salt has been a home-cooking standard for decades. But the two major brands, Diamond Crystal and Morton, are very different products. Your ruined meatballs can attest.

Or the time I named my cat after a character Shatner played. Poor Kirk, no wonder he was crazy, (even by cat standards.)

Before Discovery's premiere, [personal profile] gryffindoridiot and I had a conversation which resulted in me promising to write about a young Sarek's adventures in a Vulcan free love cult. Don't ask, it's a long story.

Today at 4 in the morning, (when I tend to come up with my best ideas.)
Me: OMG, Lorca and Sarek are the only two straight white males on the show. I must fix this!

Ladies, gentlemen, and people of all genders...get ready for the worst fic in Star Trek history.

P.S. I know I've stated on multiple occasions that I'm incapable of writing m/m, (except for the one time I did), but this idea is so insane that it might just work.

P.P.S. One day I will get an actual review of Discovery up in which I discuss such exciting topics as:

* Michael Burnham has chemistry with anything that moves.
* Michael and Saru's relationship is absolutely riveting, (but not like that)
* What happened to my red shirts? Now I have no way of telling who's going to die!

P.P.P.S. Why must I have so much homework?

A beautifully drawn, honest coming-of-age memoir centered on the world of competitive skating. The drawings are fascinating and understatedly emotional. I read this fairly long graphic memoir in one sitting. Walden's social anxiety and coming out story are intensely relatable.

This author-artist is just 21, and I eagerly look forward to her future work.
