Are you new? This post is for you!
There are some new folks around these parts, and I always enjoy talking about myself... The perfect storm for an introductory post. (Actually, I'm having trouble coming up with what to write my 750 daily words on today, so... here we are.)
Ramble-y bits are under the cut.
My name is Marcia. I live in Southeast Missouri. I'm 25.
I just have to complete my thesis in order to graduate from Graduate School. But I haven't worked on it for almost a year.
I really, really enjoy cheese. And Taco Johns. And ice cream.
I'm a receptionist for an office supply company. Like Pam in The Office, only with a more Republican boss (Seriously. He's friends with the Bushes. Bush's? Bushs?).
I'm the oldest of four kids. My parents are divorced and both remarried (to different people). My mom and her husband (he has three kids and two daughter-in-laws) are super right wing Christians. My dad is an atheist Democrat, and his wife is a lapsed Catholic. The next kid down from me has bi-polar and Aspergers, my other brother is studying marketing and computers. My sister is
fishy73, though she doesn't use it much.
Last year, I started a roller derby league. I'm a co-founder, co-president, and I run the website. I also won Best Pivot at our banquet this year.
I have four piercings, including both earlobes. No tattoos. Yet.
Watching tv and movies, listening to music, and reading are probably my favorite things aside from skating. And I don't just watch... I tend to get a little obsessive.
I live with my derby wife/best friend J. Most of my 'real life' friends are in derby, or are married to people in derby. :cough
damariscaincough: My best friend, though, is my little sister.
My favorite colors are burgundy and sea green (I still remember the girl in fifth grade who stole my sea green colored pencil). My favorite shirt shows off my boobs. My favorite skirt looks best if I'm skating around the track.
I have depression and epilepsy and OCD, mildly. I'm allergic to grass and smoke and animal hair (I live with a smoker, a dog, two cats, and a dove). I don't particularly like holidays, except for the sleeping in.
I write fanfiction. Most of it is archived at
obscureddark. I also RP. Sometimes.
Most of me is gay. My pinky toe is holding out.
I am on facebook (two accounts), twitter, tumblr, formspring, OkCupid, dreamwidth, GetGlue, and probably some places I'm forgetting. If we're mutual friends and you want links to any of these, just ask. I might say no. But I might not. Say no.
There's an easy way to win my heart. Love and celebrate women. Don't be afraid of the feminist label. Be pro-choice. Understand or want to understand people you don't already, and work on your weaknesses. Recognize privilege, and always ask questions.
I post about my life, about roller derby, and about fandom. I suck at commenting, but I read the people I follow. I'm much chattier (I swear) on other planes of existence.
I don't believe in god, but sometimes I want to. Or is that the other way around?
If you want me to add you, you have to say something. Introduce yourself. I treat my flist like a reading list, and I don't really care to read about someone I don't know.
I'm probably going to be famous some day. I might marry Ellen Page, or publish a book, or get really good at roller derby. But you'll be glad you knew me. Probably.
I make no promises.
