Under the cut: Answers to questions from the writing meme.

1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.

1,000-2,000 words of characters having feelings. Usually at least one dialogue sequence (I like talkers.) Vague at best sexual things. The lead is a woman, probably.

5. Share one of your strengths.

I think my sense of characterization is pretty good?

4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

I'm in sort of a rut right now, what with the tragedy and the wedding, but… I'm kicking around something for Legends of Tomorrow that I may or may not actually do something with. Something terribly inappropriate between Canary and Heatwave while Cap. Cold watches.

I'd also like some post- or AU fic of 10 Cloverfield Lane. I think Michelle has a lot to say.

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

I'm tripping out because if you go back one page in my most recent works you land in 2014 I'm getting old oh my god time is speeding up. Um, I really like the dialogue in I'm bored with knitting which gloss helped me a LOT with. I don't know. I like most of my dialogue! I try to really listen to the character's voice in my head, and just get frustrated when the words I need them to say don't happen.

To strictly follow the directions of the question, here's a little blurb from Say it, say it out loud:
"I am stuck," you say, and let your finger drop to Morgan's throat. You can feel the pulse there, and it grounds you when you would otherwise feel like a lung filling up, and up. "Mr. Blithely would say that I am stuck. Silence Rebecca he would say You are stuck on this-- Like a pin to a board!" You shout and Morgan's mouth tightens. You shouldn't shout, but the words are buffeting up in you, louder and louder. "The blood would rise in his cheeks, and his hand would shake, and he would feel, perhaps, yes, I think so! He would feel his leg more acutely, even wince. But I am not stuck, no, stuck implies stasis and oh, I am not still!" You take another step closer, illustrating your point. Morgan is still silent, so you take his hand, pull it free of his working glove and place it against your chest. "Every part is moving in me, and I can hear-- I can feel the thoughts in my head… fluttering?"If you've seen Strange Empire, I don't think its too cocky to say that this sounds pretty damn close to scripted Rebecca. So. That is the reason. (TECHNICALLY THIS IS A MONOLOGUE OOPS.)

9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?

All of them, lately. Though, looking on my most recent works, the ones I had the worst time with, I just wasn't prepared to take on the fandoms. And I shouldn't take pinch hits. Just, in general.

37. Talk about your current wips.

Alas, I cannot! They are both for fic exchanges! Mum's the word. I guess technically I have snippets written for the LOT idea, but, I don't really consider them to be in progress.

38. Talk about a review that made your day.

It totally blows my mind when people go back and re-read and re-comment on fics they've read before. Because they like them that much. (!!!!)

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

Fake dating. I love it so much, but it feels out of my league. Mostly because of the slow burn length required. I'm short winded.

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

I keep remembering good dialogues and then remembering that they are in stories by other people. I don't know man.

13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Revise.

16. If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

I would just stop writing.

19. Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?

Usually my OTC for whatever fandom is my muse. They're the ones who want to talk or touch or whatever. My happy cuddle pile of ladies, I guess, would be my muse.

22. Choose a passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writing style. (Person sending the ask is free to make suggestions).

As far back as AO3 goes, at least, to 2007, is still almost exactly my style. THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE AN OLD.

29. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

Let's be real, it is probably by gloss or mage_girl, and let's also be real, I'd rather make a podfic than a sequel/prequel (which I have done and will do, for the examples given.)

37. See above.

13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?
See above.
14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Was just talking to gloss about this, but it boils down to any sort of gate-keeping "You aren't a writer if you don't x, y, z." Who the fuck cares. You're a writer if you want to be a writer.

29. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

See above.
31. Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?

In general, I
prefer to stick to canon compliant, at least. It makes me itchy to deliberately go against something that is canon. I   tend to abandon fandoms that require a massive section of canon to be ignored or rewritten for this reason.
